How to Feed a Friend

What's great about pancakes is that no matter how hungry your friend might feel, you could always make more and more until he or she gets satisfied.

Ingredients:

1.An egg
2.Wheat Flour (Or mixed with white flour)
3.Onions (important; giving a great taste)
4.Garlic & ginger
5.Other vegetables (such as potatoes, carrots, and green peppers)
6.Seasonings (for me, including salt, black pepper, kumin seeds, chilly powder, curry powder, and sesame seeds)

Step 1

Talk your friend into cutting vegetables for you...
And cut ginger, garlic and Onions into small pieces.

Cut potatoes, carrots, and green peppers into small pieces.
(In order to save time while cooking, the smaller the potato pieces are, the better.)

Step 2

Break one egg. Mix it with water and wheat flour.

If the liquid could form a line as the picture shows, the texture should be good.

Step 3

Add salt, black pepper, kumin seeds, chilly powder, curry powder, and sesame seeds.

(The amount of salt depends on how many pancakes you make. Personally, I put 2tbsp for 4 pancakes.)

Step 4

Add vegetables and stir.

Step 5

Use medium heat to preheat the pan for one minute or two.

Step 6

Pour 1 1/2 tbsp oil and spread it over the pan. Let the oil heat for around 30 seconds.

Step 7

Pour the mixture into the pan and use a spoon to flatten it.

Step 8

After the outside ring changes its color, lift the edge, and make sure the pancake does not stick to the pan.

Step 9

Lift the pancake to see whether the bottom get cooked (become crispy).

Step 10

Flip it over when the bottom gets slightly burnt. (Or do it earlier if you don't like slightly-burnt pancakes.)

Step 11

When both sides become cooked, you can take the first pancake out, and start the second one.

Step 12

Change to a lower heat, add oil, and repeat the previous procedure.
(If you want to cook more quickly, and do not mind making your pancakes a little bit more burnt, feel free to cook over medium heat. But sometimes it does happen that the pancake outside becomes too hard while the inside tastes a little bit raw.)

Here they are! Four pancakes!

If made well, the pancakes would taste soft inside with its outside part slightly crispy.
Salty. Onions got fried with the hot oil. Oh god, it's yummy.

And don't forget your friend, who may sit at the table, watching you and waiting...

  2. I love the idea for cooking for friends and family! Cooking is always more fun when there are other people around helping out and participating. What other recipes do you have that would be good for more than one person?

    1. Dishes I can think of that serve more people include pizza, one whole roasted chicken (usually for 3 people), rice congee (easy to make more than less), ramen, soups (easy to make more), fish (I don't know how to cook it though), and dumplings!

  4. This sounds so fantastic! To tell you the truth, I've never made pancakes except for the buttermilk kind out of a box mix. Very creative and sounds delicious! Do you make up these recipes on your own, or are they from your family, or where did you get them?

    1. I remember I got the method of cooking pancakes online -- the simplest one is to mix flour with water and salt, and then pour it into the pan. And then I tried to add different vegetables into the mixture, and I found it worked. So I started to test what vegetables and spices I added would make the pancakes taste good. I also imagined how the taste was back home, and chose the spices based on it.

  5. I had no idea that pancakes could be made this like! They look so delicious. The only experience I have had with pancakes are the boxed quick and ready mix ones.

  6. I love pancakes and they are one of the few foods I make well I also like to experiment with fillings and toppings, though I usually go the sweet route instead of the savory one.
